This was the last set of 5 taken the day of our shoot. As I may have mentioned before, Jana Cova is my favorite. Plain and simple. I understand that may alienate some other models, but some of this is merely personal in terms of my preference for her body type and the other is because she works harder than the rest. She shows up to the shoot in pristine condition; nails and hair well taken care of, etc. Perfectly groomed. That alone saves me hours upon hours of photoshop time. Beyond that she has displayed no inhibitions, no complaints, and one of the best work ethics I’ve seen thus far. I’ve had her rolling around on dirty mattresses, sitting on itchy couches, and on her knees on my hardwood floors. This isn’t a form of torture, it’s just whats required for me to get a photograph that’s unusual enough to gain attention. I could choose to have her on fresh linens, and chances are I will at some point, but those photos will be difficult to differentiate between that of another photographer.

This photo was taken with my old fixed lens camera. Very low F stop and a high ISO, hence the noise. I like the rawness, I think it has it’s place. It’s the same reason your family photos mean more to you than any fashion ad. There’s a level of intimacy and familiarity that these circumstances afford. This is the viewer laying in bed, fantasizing about an impossibly gorgeous woman, only to have her materialize in a corner of his room. Speaking of which, this happens to be the corner of my bedroom. I used an overhead projector to light Jana. The same you’ll likely remember from the classroom. There are many photos in this set that show her every inch with adequate lighting, this shot however is not one of them. I enjoy not getting what I want because my imagination can make it happen nonetheless. This photo symbolizes my desire to imagine what is just out of my grasp. Over time my imagination gains clarity and before too long it is my reality.

It’s been awhile since I’ve posted last. Paid work has kept me busy, and I can’t post those photos. Discovering spirituality has taken a lot of my time as well. No regrets on either end, but I do miss shooting for myself on a more consistent basis.

This shot is of Misti Dawn. It won’t garner loads of views because her vagina isn’t on display, although curiously it is within the full set of images available on my paysite. Frankly, I can do without shooting the harder stuff. I tend to linger at the beginning of a set with the model fully clothed because more often than not, I find my subjects to be more sexual with their clothing on. Even the most seasoned porn star doesn’t let her guard down completely while nude. It’s a very vulnerable place to be. So i enjoy shots like the one above because there’s a vulnerability that’s difficult to capture otherwise.

This shot was taken with my new DSLR. For those just tuning in, I’ve been shooting professionally for the last 6 years with a fixed lens camera. I haven’t abandoned my punk ethic though. The DSLR was purchased for only $100 more than my fixed lens camera … a whopping $550. I bought an old AF 50mm 1.7 Minolta lens from a guy off craigslist who sorta weirded me out. We met in a Del Taco parking lot. I’m pretty sure he hadn’t showered in awhile. He pulled up in a Honda touring motorcycle. He asked me if I was interested in anything else, 135mm? sony? canon? minolta? “I’ve got it all!” he proclaimed. At that point I wasn’t entirely sure i wasn’t buying a lens full of drugs. Anyhow, after disinfecting the lens, I put it on my camera and for the first time I really got to know depth of field. DOF is my newest crush.

ok, so this photo is pretty huge in the world of … well … me. i finally bit the bullet and bought a dslr (i was using a fixed lens before). i own a real camera! hurray for me! truth is, i’ve had this camera for a couple months. piece by piece i assembled a fairly enviable collection of camera gear. not to mention light gear. i collected so much stuff that i became a little intimated by it all. in a way, this was by design. im a miser, and if i find myself investing thousands into new gear, like it or not, i’ll be forced to use it.

julene and i have been talking about shooting for months. maybe even half a year. she and i have become good friends. which is odd for several reasons. ive never had a girl as a friend. i don’t really make friends with people i work with. sure, im friendly with lots of folks, but theres only a few souls i would call up and confide in. so it made things interesting because ive never shot a friend before either, at least not nude. i told her all about the new gear and how paralyzed i felt by it and she was nice enough to get my ass out of my head and get me shooting.
